How We Choose Our Fragrances at Friendly Goods Company

Blog, News & Updates | 0 comments

At Friendly Goods Company, choosing the right fragrances for our products is as much about vibe as it is about balance. We’re a husband-and-wife team who love creating products that not only feel great on your skin but also leave you with a scent that’s just right for any mood.

When it comes to picking a new fragrance, we have a simple and fun process: we order a bunch of different options and see which ones vibe the best. We look for scents that bring something unique but also work together in harmony. For instance, in our White Tea & Ginger soap and lotion, the ginger adds a touch of complexity to the fresh, light notes of white tea. It’s all about balance! Lavender & Sage is another favorite pairing because the soothing lavender gets an earthy boost from sage.

Our newest addition, Almond & Cherry, follows the same philosophy. It’s delightfully sweet with those bright cherry notes, but it’s grounded by the warm, earthy tones of almond. We love how it turned out, and we think you will too!

Of course, we don’t always get it right. Take Sweet Floral, for example—a blend of grapefruit and rose that we thought would be a hit. It was complex and fresh, but as soon as people saw the word ‘Floral,’ they were immediately turned off. It just didn’t sell, so we had to say goodbye to it. Lesson learned—sometimes the name can make or break a fragrance!

We’re always on the lookout for new, exciting scents that reflect the natural, handcrafted quality of our products, and we’ll keep experimenting until we find the perfect ones. Have a favorite scent you’d love to see? Let us know!

Thanks for supporting us on this fragrant journey!

What is Soap?

Real soap is made through a process called saponification, where natural fats or oils are
combined with an alkali (like lye) to create a gentle, effective cleanser. The FDA has strict rules
about what can and can’t be labeled as soap, and to qualify, a product must:
1. Be made primarily of alkali salts of fatty acids—which is just a fancy way of saying oils or
fats mixed with lye.
2. Get all of its cleansing power from these alkali salts—meaning no synthetic detergents.
3. Be marketed strictly as soap—if it claims to moisturize, deodorize, or kill germs, it’s
considered a cosmetic or even a drug.
In short, true soap is simple, straightforward, and made the way it has been for centuries. But if
your “soap” contains synthetic detergents, it’s something else entirely.

Beauty Bar Defined A beauty bar might look like soap, feel like soap, and lather up like soap—but it’s not actually soap. Unlike real soap, which is made by combining natural fats or oils with lye (a process called saponification), beauty bars are made with synthetic...
